“Either Tom’s lying, or Frank was,” said Flynn, once they were outside.

“How did Tom seem to you?”

“Not lying,” Flynn said after a moment’s thought. “Just puzzled. And glad to get the money and not wantin’ to give it back.”

“My impression as well,” said Dr. Watson. “Which rather leaves us with nowhere else to turn, for the moment anyway. I will report our results to Jack. Do you want to come with me?”

“No thanks,” said Flynn.

He had another idea. But he didn’t want to talk about it.
